More people than ever are interested in embracing healthy, humane, eco-friendly vegan meals—but what's the best way to get started? Renowned television host Marco Antonio Regil has the answers in a fun new video for PETA Latino, "How to Shop Vegan," in which the vegan Minuto Para Ganar host clowns around in a supermercado while giving tips on how to stock a kitchen with plant-based foods—from the produce section to the nondairy aisle.
"[M]any people motivated by a love for animals, by concern for the environment, or their health ask me about getting started on the path to becoming vegan,” says Regil in the video, which is available in Spanish and with English subtitles. “[Y]ou don’t have to give up all the traditional products that are in your refrigerator, because these days you can find milk, cheese, butter that are all 100 percent vegan. … It’s never been easier."
Regil's video comes just in time for the holidays and coincides with the launch of PETA Latino's first-ever Spanish-language vegan starter kit. Filled with helpful tips, delicious vegan recipes, and easy-to-follow meal plans, the kit is a go-to for anyone looking to spruce up his or her vegan pantry or take the first step toward going vegan—a move that saves more than 100 animals every year from immense suffering on factory farms, in slaughterhouses, and on the decks of fishing boats.
And the benefits don't stop there: By choosing vegan meals, people can still enjoy a wide array of delicious food, minus the cruelty and excess calories. PETA Latino—whose motto reads, in part, that "animals are not ours to eat"—offers dozens of recipes for "veganized" versions of traditional Spanish dishes such as potato empanadas, albondigas soup, and sweet-potato quesadillas.
Regil is part of a long list of celebrities—including Rodrigo y Gabriela, Rubén Albarrán, Rocsi Diaz, Constance Marie, and Christian Serratos —who've teamed up with PETA Latino to promote healthy vegan meals.
